A Bright Spot

Most cashiers are in a big hurry to ring up the customer and get them on their way. I’m always most impressed by the cashier that slows down and takes the time to interact with the elderly customers. Some are lonely and look forward to talking to anyone. You can tell by the smile on their face that the patient and kind cashier made their day that much better.

Its interesting that the

Its interesting that the people in a place are often described by how their cashiers interact with the clientele. For example in the midwest of the US, the cashiers generally get into a conversation with the clientele, while in NYC if there is any conversation it is usually abrupt with a few generic niceties. Cashiers aren't professional therapists, but like bar tenders they seem to have a certain responsibility to represent their store, their city and even their country.
